BENUE STATE PLANNING COMMISSION

Facilitating and coordinating the formulation and implementation of plans, policies and budgets for the balanced development of the state by working with ministries, departments, agencies, citizen groups, the private sector and external partners.

Departments

The Commission has Six Departments:

 

  1. Department of Administration and Finance
  2. Department of Budget
  3. Department of Macroeconomics
  4. Department of Plans, Capital Budget, Monitoring and Evaluation
  5. Department of Technical Cooperation
  6. Department of Statistics

Department of Administration and Finance

To coordinate the formulation and implementation of government programmes as contained in annual plans, budgets, short-term, medium-term and perspective plans at the state and local government level The Department of Administration and Finance provides essential support services for the effective functioning of the Commission. It provides management services to facilitate the work of Commission and its five Technical departments. Its operational functions cover all personnel, administrative and financial matters. Among the operational units are Accounts, Library, Secretarial, Computer, Information and Legal services.

Department of Budget

The department is responsible for preparation of annual budgets for the State and budget performance coordination, tracking and reporting, working closely with ministries, departments and agencies in government, the state assembly and citizen groups.

Department of Macroeconomics

The department is responsible for:

  • coordinating the preparation profiling of the economic resources of the State and Local Government;
  • coordinating of the State Annual Capital Estimates in liaison with the Ministry of Finance;
  • the integration of donor resources available to the State into the state development programmes in liaison with the Department of Technical Cooperation;
  • the Coordination of progress reports on development plans;
  • the Supervision of the State Human Resources Committee and the Income, Price and Productivity Committee.

Department of Plans, Monitoring and Evaluation Department

The department is responsible for:

  • the preparation of sectoral policies and plans;
  • the coordination of Local Government plans;
  • the coordination of monitoring activities in the state in liaison with the MDAs, Local Governments and federal agencies and national and international bodies;
  • the coordination of feasibility studies for the state development plans;

Department of Technical Cooperation

The department is responsible for:

  • the Coordination of all development aid and technical assistance matters in the state, including serving as the focal point and or coordination mechanism for programmes and projects supported by UN agencies, the World Bank and others;
  • the coordination of the preparation of progress reports of development aid and technical assistance matters in the state;
  • the monitoring and evaluation of development aid and technical assistance programmes in the State;
  • the Monitoring and Evaluation of Development Aid and Technical Assistance programmes in the State;
  • coordination of progress reports of development aid.

Department of Statistics

The department is responsible for:

  • the coordination of all statistical activities in the State in liaison with National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) State Branch Office, and all Local Government Councils;
  • providing comprehensive statistical information on Benue State to facilitate purposeful planning, appraisal, goals and good decision making;
  • disseminating social, economic and demographic information through issuance of timely statistical bulletin to meet the needs of policy makers, researchers, students and the public
